We deeply appreciate this opportunity to participate in this training program. On behalf of my colleagues‚ I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Government of Japan‚ through JICA‚ for building our capacity in the WASH (water‚ Sanitation and hygiene) sector. We also thank all individuals‚ near and far‚ who contributed to the success of this training and provided us with invaluable knowledge to improve WASH in our respective countries.
From November 10th to December 18th‚ 2024‚ we have been in Japan participating in a training program on gParticipatory Management of Water‚ Sanitation and Hygiene for Rural Areas in African Countriesh. The program brought together participants from seven African nations: Rwanda‚ Kenya‚ Malawi‚ Sudan‚ Uganda‚ Mozambique and Ethiopia.
- Operation‚ maintenance‚ and management technologies for deep well pumps
- Various wastewater treatment technologies
- Development of action plans
- Operation of slow filtration facilities
- Sewage treatment using standard and activated sludge methods
- Management of water supply facilities in municipalities‚ including resident involvement in small-scale water supply systems
- Consensus-building‚ waterborne diseases‚ and other critical issues.
We also analyzed and discussed the current WASH challenges in our countries and identified common issues‚ such as:
- Limited community awareness of water infrastructure management
- Unsustainable operation and maintenance (O&M) of water facilities in rural areas
- Inadequate sanitation services
Once again‚ we express our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Japan and JICA‚ the program lecturers‚ and particularly Mr. Ogata‚ Ms. Kawano‚ and our coordinator‚ Ms. Takamuku. Your dedication‚ kindness‚ and efforts made this training a great success. We assure you that the knowledge gained will be put to good use in bringing positive changes to the WASH sector in our countries.
Thank you‚ wishing you all over you Merry Christmas and happy new year of prosperity.
