This course is intended to improve the practical teaching skills of staff at universities and vocational schools‚ and aims to develop human resources capable of resolving issues related to the gap between education and on-site engineering. It was held in Japan for the first time in four years‚ making it my first time to be in charge of a training course in Japan since I have been a course leader for two years. There were 12 participants from 12 countries in Asia‚ the Middle East and Africa‚ a big increase from previous courses with between four and eight participants. Although training courses in Japan involve a much greater workload than remote training‚ such as physical preparations and arranging transportation‚ their effectiveness is correspondingly even greater‚ and the joy that results from the interactions they facilitate is immeasurable.

This course is characterized by its large number of workshops and practical exercises‚ and universities and companies are kind enough to let us use their training facilities. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude once again to all those who so willingly helped with the training‚ such as by providing lectures and workshops‚ or welcoming field trips.
For example‚ in the workshop on embedded microcomputers the participants assemble a robot car and have the experience of operating it with software. All of the participants successfully built and operated their car‚ thereby experiencing the thrill that comes from making things.

Another practical element of the course was to install simulator software on the laptop computers the participants had brought from their home countries. Specifically‚ there were practical exercises on topics such as control theory‚ electronic circuits and logic circuits using software like Matlab‚ Psim‚ LTspice and Logisim. I did also use simulators for remote training when the COVID-19 pandemic made workshops impossible‚ and I continue to use them even now that the pandemic is over as they are an inexpensive and effective way to learn. I have tremendous respect for the participants‚ who all studied with great zeal during their training. I hope that they will play prominent roles in the future and put their action plans into practice.
